Nova Scotians who have been severely impacted by hurricane Fiona can now receive financial support from the Government of Nova Scotia. Applications for one-time financial assistance programs are open to residents, business owners, and non-profit organizations, you can access the applications here.
They include:
• $100 for every household that lost power for at least 48 hours to help cover the cost of spoiled food
• Up to $250 for every person that has to pay for tree removal from their property
• an additional $250 on top of the existing seniors care grant to help with storm repairs
• $1,000 per household in emergency funding for people ordered out of their homes or who cannot return to their homes; administered through the Red Cross
• the Disaster Financial Assistance Program, which covers up to $200,000 in uninsurable losses per eligible household, small business, and not-for-profits
All current income assistance households, including Disability Support Program participants receiving income assistance, will receive $150 in support automatically. These clients can also apply for other types of support.
Nova Scotians without power or access to the internet can visit their municipal or MLA offices, Access Nova Scotia Centres, or local libraries for assistance in applying online.
